Brahmi is a non-aromatic, perennial creeping herb belonging to the family Plantaginaceae. The plant is mainly grown in India. It is used to improve memory and cognition in Ayurveda and chinese medicine. Its leaves are coin-shaped, soft, succulent, 4-6 mm thick & grow in clusters of two or three alternately placed on hairy stem. The stem is 10-30 cm long and only 1-2 mm thick. It has small, actinomorphic, white or purplish colored flowers. Brahmi is the most potent nervine tonic used in Ayurveda. Bacosides is the active compound in Brahmi which is good for brain health.
