Shankhpushpi is a perennial herb belonging to the family Convolvulaceae. It has spreading branches, blue-colored flowers & elliptical leaves located at alternate positions with branches or flowers. Shankhpushpi shows antidepressant, antidiabetic, anxiolytic, antioxidant, and neuroprotective activity. In Ayurveda, Shankhpushpi is considered as Madhya (brain tonic) rasayana. Shankhpushpi is used for its action on the central nervous system, especially for boosting memory and improving intellect. For many years, it has been used for the treatment of anxiety, hypertension, stress, neurosis, insomnia, epilepsy, cerebral abnormalities, asthma & bronchitis. Shankhpushpi is also used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer & dementia.
